Our Mission

The majority of food produced for human consumption is wasted. Reasons for this waste can be attributed to poor production processes, broken logistic and value chains and increases in income to name a few. In Sub-Saharan Africa, the volume of total waste is expected to reach over 500 million tons per year, with almost half of this being organic waste.

This waste goes to landfills, where it decomposes and in doing so contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Emissions that are especially high in methane, whose impact on global warming is exponentially worse than Carbon Dioxide.

BioBuu is looking to solve this problem and at the same time create a product of value.

Hermetia illucens (common name: black soldier fly), is a common and widespread fly across the African continent. The larvae of this fly are voracious eaters, able to consume convert large quantities of organic waste into body mass. This body mass in turn is high in protein and fat. Qualities that are highly sought in many animal diets.

Current diets for farmed animals use Fish meal (ground up fish) and Soy Beans as their source of protein. Sourcing of fish meal has a detrimental impact on the environment. Whilst Soy consumes vast tracks of land and water, resources that could be utilized for food for human consumption. Both Soy and Fish meal can be considered extremely environmentally unfriendly to produce.

Suspendisse ultrices, tellus vitae varius convallis, ipsum justo commodo dui, a feugiat mauris turpis ut turpis."

BioBuu converts a product that would otherwise have had a negative impact on the environment, into a product that replaces products that are environmentally unfriendly, using a natural process.  This goes beyond upcycling, the circular economy and cutting edge innovation, it is an idea that could revolutionise the way we feed animals and manage our organic waste.

The majority of food produced for human consumption is wasted. By 2050 Sub-Saharan Africa will produce over 200 million tons of organic waste per year. Waste goes to landfills, decomposes and emits greenhouse gases. BioBuu solves this problem and at the same time creates a product of value; using the larvae of a fly.

The fly larvae are voracious eaters, converting organic waste into a body mass that is high in protein. Protein that can be used in animal feed.

Current diets for farmed animals use Fish Meal and Soy as their source of protein. Production and sourcing of both can be considered extremely environmentally unfriendly. Protein is also the most expensive part of any animal diet.

BioBuu converts a product that would otherwise have had a negative impact on the environment, into a product that replaces products that are environmentally unfriendly, using a natural process and at a better price point.

Insect Protein is going to be big, its just a matter of time.
